Matatena is the Spanish word for jacks. ¡Sí, jacks! The game of our childhood! 💗 It's a fun, colorful, and native word! It comes from Nahuatl, one of the most important languages of Mexico. It's an ideal name for an institute that will promote dexterity, rhythm, and warmth in teaching 🎲

¡Hola, mucho gusto! I’m Lía, the person who starts this project. Honestly, I’m love with languages. I studied Letras Hispánicas (Literature and Linguistics) at the Universidad de Guadalajara. I also hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language, from the same university.
My calling has been to redefine how students inhabit the language. After teaching at prestigious institutions like Tec de Monterrey, and exploring countless teaching methods, from the most organic to the most traditional, I realized that true Spanish isn't found on whiteboards; it lives in the vibrant pulse of our culture.
It’s the reason why I decided to open this small space. Instituto Matatena was born to dignify the art of teaching. Here, academic rigor meets the joy of play. Now, our mission is to provide an experience that matches your highest goals and our authentically Mexican culture.
